I didn’t get interested in home decor through design school or a career in interiors. I got interested in it the way most people do – I got married, and suddenly I had a home to make.
That’s when I found out how little of the advice online is actually usable. I’d save a photo of a living room, work out what I liked about it, and then try to apply it to the room I actually had. It never translated.
The room in the photo had light from two directions, ceilings I didn’t have, and furniture that cost more than my whole budget.
Nothing I read ever mentioned any of that. Every article told me what looked good. Almost none of them told me what would work in my space, at my budget, with the wall and the window and the awkward corner I was actually dealing with.
I’d been writing professionally since 2021 by then, across a lot of different subjects. Home decor was the first one I kept reading about after the work was finished.
Styli Casa is the site I wanted when I was standing in an empty room with a hundred saved photos and no idea where to start.
Who I am

I’m a writer by trade. I’ve been working professionally since 2021, and over that time I’ve written for a range of publications across different subjects – including three home decor publications before I started this one.
That’s where I learned the category properly: what people search for, which questions come up again and again, and how much published decor advice quietly assumes a budget and a house most readers don’t have.
Let me be straight about what I am and what I’m not. I’m not an interior designer. I’m not an architect or a contractor, and I’ll never pretend otherwise on this site.
What I am is a researcher and a writer who has spent years reading this subject closely, four of them writing about it professionally – and someone who has furnished and decorated his own home, made the usual mistakes doing it, and learned what the magazines leave out.
Where a question needs a professional, I’ll tell you to get one. Where it needs a licensed trade, permits, or a structural opinion, I’ll say that too. What I can do is help you think clearly about your own space before you spend money on it.
How I make this site
Most decor sites don’t tell you where their ideas or their pictures come from. Here’s how this one works.
Research. Every article starts with a question people are actually asking – pulled from searches, comments, and the places people go when they’re stuck. Before writing, I read across design publications, manufacturer specifications, and the work of practising designers, so what ends up here reflects how a room is actually put together rather than how it photographs.
Writing. I use AI tools to help with research and early drafts. Every article is then rewritten, fact-checked, and edited by me before it publishes. Every article is read end to end by me before it publishes, and I’m accountable for what’s on the page.
Corrections. If something here is wrong, I want to know. Email me and I’ll fix it and note the change on the page. That’s a standing offer, not a formality.
Independence. Brands cannot pay for a mention, a ranking, or a recommendation. Where a link earns a commission, it’s disclosed at the top of the article, before you reach the link. The full policy is in the Affiliate Disclosure.
What you’ll find here
Living Room – Layout, seating, lighting, and the arrangement problems that come with awkward, narrow, or shared spaces.
Bedroom – Storage, colour, and making small rooms feel finished without stripping them back to nothing.
Kitchen – Cabinets, surfaces, and period styles, including what’s realistic to change on a budget or in a rental.
Bathroom – Organisation, storage, and making small or windowless bathrooms work harder.
More rooms are coming as the site grows – laundry, entryway, and outdoor spaces are next.
What I try to do differently
Ideas that fit real rooms. Most decor inspiration comes from large, professionally styled spaces with perfect light. Most people don’t live in one.
Where an idea only works with high ceilings, a big budget, or windows on two walls, I say so rather than letting you find out after you’ve bought the paint.
Specifics over adjectives. Warm and inviting doesn’t help you decide anything. Actual colours, materials, proportions, and price ranges do.
Honest about cost. Some of what looks best is genuinely expensive. I’d rather tell you that, and then tell you what gets you most of the way there, than pretend every look is achievable for nothing.
No filler. Articles here are as long as the question needs. If the answer takes two paragraphs, it gets two paragraphs.
